JACKSONVILLE. Fla. – Jack Horbach scored two goals and the Florida Everblades rallied with four unanswered goals in the final two periods to claim a 4-1 victory over the Jacksonville Icemen Sunday afternoon at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
The victory extended the Everblades’ winning streak to four games, the second such streak for Florida in the first nine games of the season.
A tight first period saw the Everblades dominate the shot count 8-4, but Jacksonville grabbed its first lead of the three-game series with an unassisted goal in the final minute of play. Timothy Heinke squeezed the puck past Everblades netminder Roddy Ross with just 20.5 seconds left on the clock to stake the Icemen to a 1-0 lead.
Horbach answered quickly in the second, banging a rebound past Jacksonville goalie Chase Wutzke to tie the score at 1-1. Horbach’s third goal of the season came just 2:20 into the middle frame.
The Blades created numerous chances throughout the second period, outshooting the Icemen by a hefty 16-6 margin, but other than Horbach’s goal, could not solve the 20-year old Wutzke who registered 23 saves against 24 Florida shots through 40 minutes.
Early in the third period, the Everblades did find the answer to Wutzke, as Horbach struck again, banging home a rebound of his own shot at 3:21 to give the Blades a 2-1 lead. Devon Paliani followed with an insurance goal, his team-high seventh marker of the season, at 5:38 to put Florida on top 3-1.
Tyler Duke closed out the scoring with his second goal of the season at 17:37 to extend the lead to 4-1.
In goal, Roddy Ross stopped 12 of 13 shots and picked up the win in his Everblades debut. The Everblades owned the shot counter all night, outshooting Jacksonville 35-13 for the game,
With a 4-1 road trip in the books, the Everblades will return to Hertz Arena to open a five-game homestand with two big meetings against the red-hot South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m and Saturday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m..
