ESTERO, FL – Trevor Cann made 23 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season, and help lead the Florida Everblades to a 4-0 shutout victory over the South Carolina Stingrays Saturday night at Germain Arena.
Evan Bloodoff opened the scoring at 8:22 of the first period. Bloodoff raced in the zone and angled toward the South Carolina net, and lifted a backhanded shot past netminder Pheonix Copley for the goal.
The Blades extended their lead nearly seven minutes later. Philip-Michael Devos threaded a pass though traffic to Geoff Walker in the slot. Walker wristed a shot past Copley’s blocker to give Florida a 2-0 lead after the first period.
The Everblades added to their lead at 6:45 of the second, after Brandon MacLean tipped and redirected a shot by Mike Little into the net to extend the lead to 3-0.
Mathieu Roy capped off the scoring with his team-leading 26th goal of the season at 12:43 of the middle frame.
The ‘Blades went into shutdown mode in the third period, and goaltender Trevor Cann turned aside all 12 shots thrown his way in the final stanza to preserve a 4-0 shutout victory for the Florida.
Cann was solid in net and stopped all 23 shots faced for his fourth shutout of the season. Copley takes the loss in his first professional start, allowing four goals on 37 shots. Defenseman Rob Kwiet logged three assists and a +3 rating for the ‘Blades.
