Cyclones Storm Past ‘Blades 5-2

ESTERO, FL – Dan Eves finished with a goal and an assist to help lead the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 5-2 victory over the Florida Everblades Friday night at Germain Arena.

After a scoreless opening period, Cincinnati scored first at 4:33 on a goal by Dan Eves to put the Cyclones on top early in the second.

Four minutes later, the ‘Blades countered.  A.J. Jenks received a pass at the Cincinnati blue line, and skated the puck to the high slot.  Jenks unleashed a wrist shot that cleanly beat Cyclones goaltender Rob Madore high on the left corner of the net.

The Cyclones reclaimed the lead when rookie Brian Nugent led a 2-on-1 rush into the zone.  Nugent eyed the trailer, but called his own number, and beat Florida netminder Andy Iles on a wrist shot to put his team back on top 2-1.

Cincinnati added to its lead with a power play marker late in the middle frame.  Byron Froese tipped a shot from the point past Iles to guide the Cyclones to a 3-1 advantage.

The Cyclones continued their assault in the third, when Barry Almeida tipped and redirected a Mike Dalhuisen shot from the point into the net to extend the Cincinnati lead to three.

In the final five minutes, Florida played with an empty net in hopes of lighting the lamp with the extra attacker. The gamble paid off as Mathieu Roy tipped Mike Little’s shot past Madore.  The goal pulled the Everblades within two, and extended Roy’s goal scoring streak to three games.

Despite the goal, Almeida sealed the game with an empty-net tally to secure the 5-2 win.

Madore earns the win stopping 25 of 27 shots faced, while Iles takes the loss, allowing four goals on 19 shots faced.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.   Join the fun on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. for the annual Guns ‘N Hoses hockey game!
