Cann’s Big First Powers Blades’ 3-0 Shutout

Estero, FL – Trevor Cann made 14 saves in a touch-and-go first period but his offense picked him up, scoring a goal in each frame to blank the Gwinnett Gladiators 3-0 Saturday at Germain Arena.

While the game was scoreless in a first period that saw the Glads outshoot the home side 14-6, Cann made his biggest save on an early Blades penalty kill, denying Jonathan Narbonne’s one-time attempt near the 10-minute mark of the opening frame.

Moments after that ‘PK’ expired for Florida, Brandon MacLean hit Jordan Henry out of the box for a 2-on-1 rush that the blueliner cashed in through the legs of former Everblade goalie Scott Stajcer to lift the Blades ahead 1-0 with 9:02 to go in the first.

MacLean doubled the lead to 2-0 just 73 seconds into the middle stanza when his back door pass, intended for Kyle Bonis, was deflected by a Gwinnett defender into the cage.

The Blades held Gwinnett to just seven shots in the second and third periods, and Trevor Bruess put the finishing touches on a dominating Florida win with 1:48 left in the game, slamming home a MacLean crossing pass for the final 3-0 margin.

Cann finished with 21 stops and his second shutout of the season; Stajcer made 23 stops but it wasn’t enough to avoid the loss at the hands of his former mates.

Florida now heads out on a three-game road trip, starting Friday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:00pm.

Saturday’s trip lidlifter will be broadcast live online at FloridaEverblades.com and on the Everblades’ app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, with a video webcast available through America ONE, the official broadband and mobile broadcaster of the ECHL, at www.americaonesports.com. Pregame coverage will get under way at 6:45pm.
