Estero, FL – The Florida Everblades will drop the puck on the 2013-14 ECHL season Friday at Germain Arena as they host the Orlando Solar Bears for the front end of a two-game, home-and-home series.
For the season opener, the Blades will be hosting a special “Black Out Night,” in which they will be wearing special edition black jerseys—the first time in franchise history they’ll don black uniforms.
Florida and Orlando hook back up for the season opener just six days after the Solar Bears swept the two-game preseason series from the Everblades with a pair of one-goal wins.
Tensions ran high in Saturday’s 4-3 Orlando exhibition victory after a hit by Solar Bear defender Myles Harvey knocked Blades assistant captain Trevor Bruess out of the game, resulting in the two sides combining for 36 penalty minutes in the final 10 minutes of the game.
In last year’s 16-game season series, the Blades captured the head-to-head battle with the Bears with a record of 9-4-3 against their intrastate rivals.
Following the season opener, fans will have a chance to own a piece of franchise history as the Blades will be auctioning off the game-worn Black Out jerseys.
The first 5,000 fans through the gate Friday will also receive a free 2013-14 magnet schedule.
Friday’s game is scheduled for a 7:30pm puck drop. Florida’s two ECHL squads will reconvene for a rematch Saturday at the Amway Center in Orlando at 7:00pm.
Individual game tickets are now on sale at the Capital Bank Box Office at Germain Arena, Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturdays 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
