ESTERO, FL – This past weekend the Florida Everblades held its annual team awards ceremony to recognize the achievements of team members for the 2012-13 season.
The Brandon Coalter Unsung Hero Award – Corey Trivino
This award recognizes a player that exhibits courage, enthusiasm and love for the game of hockey. Here to present the award is fan club member over the course of the season. This player’s contribution on and off the ice may go unrecognized at times, but this individual has become one of the steadiest and most dependable playmakers on the team.
Trivino finished his rookie season totaling 51 points (18g, 33a) and a +17 rating.
The Piper Buckley Community Service Award – Trevor Bruess
This award is sponsored by the Hyatt Place Coconut Point and has been named in remembrance of Piper Buckley the daughter of former Everblade Tom Buckley. Piper was a very special young girl that touched the lives of many in our hockey community. The award goes to the Everblades player dedicated to spending countless hours in the community and is deemed to have contributed the most humanitarian service to the Southwest Florida community.
Bruess played in just seven games this season, as an injury sidelined him for the season. Instead of going home, he decided to be with the team and the community he won a championship with last season. Trevor visited and delivered teddy bears to patients at the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. He read to children at schools, and at read-a-thons at local malls. Additionally he attended numerous fan, and charity events.
The Florida Everblades Most Valuable Player Award – Mathieu RoyThis award is voted on by his teammates. This player has continued to have extraordinary leadership on and off the ice as well as great success all season long with the ‘Blades
Roy won the ECHL’s scoring title in 2012-13 posting 89 points (38g, 51a). His 38 goals were also tops in the league. He finished the season with a +18 rating. In February was named the ECHL Player of the Month. Roy was also named to the All-ECHL First Team.
