ESTERO, FL – Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced Wednesday that the team has acquired defenseman Maury Edwards from the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for defenseman Taylor Ellington.
Edwards joins the Everblades having posted seven points (2g, 5a) in 24 games played with the Cyclones this season. The 5-11, 180-pound blue-liner totaled 30 points (7g, 23a) in 62 appearances with the Cyclones last season. Edwards has also appeared in 13 games in the American Hockey League the past two seasons, logging an assist in stints with Providence, Lake Erie, Peoria, and Rochester.
The Rocky Rapids, Alberta native accumulated 79 points (28g, 51a) during his four-year collegiate career (2007-2011) at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
Ellington heads to Cincinnati having registered 16 points (3g, 13a) this season for the Everblades. Ellington is a 2007 second-round pick of the Vancouver Canucks.
Florida returns to the ice on Friday at Greenville. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on 96 K-Rock (96.1). Florida returns home to battle the Toledo Walleye on January 9, 11, 12, at Germain Arena.
