ORLANDO, FL – Goaltender John Curry stopped 27 of 28 shots faced to help lead the Orlando Solar Bears to a 2-1 victory over the Florida Everblades at the Amway Center Thursday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Solar Bears lit the lamp first on a shorthanded goal by Dan Gendur. Gendur blocked a pass by Bobby Raymond at the blue line, knocking the puck out to the neutral zone. Gendur grabbed the puck and carried into the zone, and fired a wrist shot from the left wing circle, which sailed past the glove of Everblades goaltender John Muse and into the back of the net. The goal gave Orlando the 1-0 advantage.
The Solar Bears extended their lead at 12:52 of the second, when Scott Tanski broke into the zone on the right wing, and beat Muse on a wrist shot on the blocker side. The goal gave Orlando a two-goal edge after 40 minutes played.
The Everblades got on the board at 8:08 of the third period, with a shorthanded marker of their own. Aaron Bogosian curled to the slot, and wristed a shot high past Orlando netminder John Curry for the goal to pull his team within one.
For the remainder of the period, the ‘Blades were limited to a lot of outside perimeter shots which were all turned aside by Curry who helped seal the 2-1 victory for the Solar Bears.
Curry earns the win allowing just one goal on 28 shots faced, while Muse takes the loss stopping 30 of 32 shots faced in the game.
The two teams will meet again on Friday at the Amway Center beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Florida returns home to battle the Toledo Walleye on January 9, 11, 12, at Germain Arena.
