ESTERO, FL – The Florida Everblades announced Monday that forward Justin Shugg has been recalled to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. In addition, forward A.J. Jenks has been reassigned to Florida from Charlotte.

The announcement comes two days after Shugg netted his first career hat trick in a 5-4 shootout win over Wheeling Saturday night. Shugg posted 22 points (11g, 11a) in 19 games played with the ‘Blades this season. The 5-11, 194-pound winger led the Everblades with seven goals in the 2012 Kelly Cup Playoffs last spring.

Shugg registered 12 points (5g, 7a) in 33 games played with Charlotte (AHL) last season. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native finished his junior career with 186 pts (101g, 85a) split between Oshawa, Windsor, and Mississauga St. Michaels of the Ontario Hockey League. Shugg was a member of Windsor’s back-to-back Memorial Cup Championship teams in 2008 and 2009.

Shugg is a fourth round draft selection of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Jenks rejoins the Everblades after logging an assist in seven games played with Charlotte this season. Jenks has gone scoreless in two games played with the ‘Blades this season.

The 6-2, 200-pound winger totaled nine points (4g, 5a) in 52 appearances last season split between Charlotte and the San Antonio Rampage last season. In addition, Jenks posted six points (3g, 3a) in 13 games played with the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL) last year as well.

In his first pro season, Jenks registered 20 points (8g, 12a) in 63 games played with the Rochester Americans during the 2010-11 season. He totaled 193 points (79g,114a) during his four-year junior career with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League from 2006-2010.

The Wolverine Lake, Michigan native is a fourth-round selection of the Florida Panthers of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.Florida faces the Cincinnati Cyclones at U.S. Bank Arena Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on 96 K-Rock (96.1 FM), and online by at www.floridaeverblades.com

Florida’s next home game is Wednesday, December 19 against the Orlando Solar Bear. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
