Greenville Scores Late to Defeat Everblades 3-1

GREENVILLE, SC – Brendan Connolly’s goal with 2:23 remaining in regulation lifted the Greenville Road Warriors to a 3-1 victory over the Florida Everblades at the Bi-Lo Center Saturday night.

It took just 31 seconds for the Everblades to get on the board. Matt Marquardt broke into the zone on the right wing side. Marquardt fired off a shot from circle which was stopped by Greenville goaltender Nathan Lieuwen. However, the rebound jumped to the stick of Brandon MacLean who shoved the puck into the net for the goal. The goal would stand for the remainder of the period, and Florida took a 1-0 lead into first intermission.

Greenville countered with a goal of their own at 4:29 of the first period. Marc-Olivier Vallerand threw a cross ice pass to Kenndell McArdle who wristed a shot on the backside behind Everblades netminder Pat Nagle to tie the game at 1-1 through 40 minutes played.

The Everblades had numerous chances to take the lead in the third period, but Lieuwen came up with several clutch saves to keep the score tied.

Late in the third, the Road Warriors took advantage of an Everblades turnover which led to a 2-on-1 rush into the zone.  Brendan Connolly broke in on the right wing side and snapped a shot past Nagle’s glove for the goal, to give Greenville the lead with 2:23 remaining.

Greenville added another goal less than minute later, as Brandon Wong slipped a shot into the net, to secure the 3-1 victory.

Lieuwen earns the win stopping 31 of 32 shots faced. While Nagle take the loss despite a strong game, allowing three goals on 27 shots.
