ESTERO, FL- The Florida Everblades drop their first home game of the season at Germain Arena Wednesday night as the South Carolina Stingrays defeated the Everblades 4-2.
The Everblades scored first at 12:04 into the first period with Maxime St-Cyr getting his first goal in his first professional game. St-Cyr was able to get his first goal past Vitek Vanecek in the slot off a rebound from a Matt Willows shot.
With the Everblades leading 1-0 at the start of the second period Derek DeBlois was able to capitalize on a turnover by Willows in front of the net. Willows carried the puck just above the crease, but DeBlois swiped at the puck which deflected past an unsuspecting Daniel Altshuller in net, tying the game up 1-1.
Five minutes later, the Stingrays struck again this time off of an Austin Fyten tally off a rebound. Fyten picked up a rebound in front and deked around Altshuller, and lifted the puck high into the net for the go ahead tally.
With just over one minute to play in the second, Kyle Kraemer put one past Altshuller after a beautiful move from the left wing side to give the Stingrays two-goal lead.
One minute into the third period, Brant Harris was able to speed past the Stingray defense on a breakaway chance and score the first shorthanded goal of the season for the Everblades putting the score within one at 3-2.
The Everblades tried to tie the game up late into the third as they pulled Altshuller to allow for the extra attacker, but Joey Leach was able to put one into the open net with eight seconds left in the game.
Vanecek gets the win in net stopping 28 out of 29 shots on goal, while Altshuller takes the loss allowing three goals on 24 shots.
The Everblades will take on the Stingrays again Friday night at Germain Arena. Game time is set at 7:30p.m.Â
