2014-15 Florida Everblades Season in Review

ESTERO, FL – The Florida Everblades 2014-15 season ended in Game 6 of the East Division Finals with a 5-2 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays last Monday.  Despite the second round playoff loss, the team pieced together a remarkable season in which the team won the division title for the first time since the 2008-09 season, and clinched a spot in the playoffs for the 16th time in the club’s 17-year history.    Florida’s 105 points in the standings were the second most in team history (The highest was 108 points during the 1999-2000 season).

The following information recaps the final numbers and highlights some of the accomplishments made by the 2014-15 Florida Everblades:

700 Wins! On Saturday, March 21, 2015, the Everblades earned win number 700 in team history with a 7-3 victory at Evansville.  Florida holds an All-Time record of 706-386-127 during its 17-year history.

Trivino scores the 4000th goal in Everblades HistoryForward Corey Trivino scored the 4000th goal in Florida Everblades history on November 16, 2014 at Gwinnett. Trivino scored the sixth goal in a 6-3 win over the Gladiators to achieve the milestone goal.  The tally was scored at 14:50 of the third period.

Wahl Breaks Team Point Streak Record; Ties ECHL Season BestIn the regular season finale on April 11, 2015 against Orlando, Mitch Wahl’s first period assist extended his point scoring streak to 17 games.  The streak broke the Everblades’ team record previously set by Tom Buckley (16 games) during the 2000-01 season.  In addition, the streak tied Allen’s Chad Costello for the longest point streak in the league in 2014-15. Wahl accumulated 23 points (4g, 19a) during the 17 game stretch.

We’re Going Streaking! During the 2014-15 season, the Everblades pieced together a season best ten-game win streak from March 4 – March 21. In addition, the ‘Blades recorded a 14-game unbeaten streak from March 4 – March 28.   The team also assembled other win streaks of five, six and seven games throughout the season.

Triple Overtime Thriller Sets Team Record On May 6, 2015, the Everblades and South Carolina Stingrays pieced together a triple overtime masterpiece at the North Charleston Coliseum in Game 4 of the East Division Finals.  Corey Trivino scored at 5:38 of the third overtime to secure a 2-1 victory for Florida.  The game became the longest in Everblades history (105:38). The previous mark was set on May 9, 2007 in a game against the Dayton Bombers (101:23).

Shutting them DownThe Everblades had no problems protecting leads late in games during the regular season.  The ‘Blades posted a 36-1-1-1 record when leading after two periods of play.   The 36 wins tied the Allen Americans for the most wins in the league this season when leading after two periods.

Three More Everblades Reach the NHLThe Florida Everblades continue to help place players in the National Hockey League.  Three more former Everblades reached the NHL in 2014-15.  On October 16, forward Brody Sutter made his NHL debut with the Carolina Hurricanes, while winger Justin Shugg made his debut with the Hurricanes on December 16 in a game at Montreal.  Additionally, goaltender Scott Darling made his NHL debut on October 26, when he stopped 32 of 33 shots to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-1 victory over Ottawa.

A total of 53 Everblades players have played in the NHL over the years, while 31 of the players are listed as “ECHL Graduates” (having played in the ECHL before reaching the NHL).  To view the full list of Everblades in the NHL CLICK HERE
