NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Adam Brace and Corey Trivino each finished with a goal and an assist to help lift the Florida Everblades to a 4-1 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night.
Neither team generated a ton of offense in the first period, as both teams combined for just 11 shots on net. However, the Everblades (7-2-0-1, 15 pts) were able to take advantage of one of their opportunities and take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Trivino picked up a loose puck in his own end and carried it to the low part of the left wing circle. Trivino then fed a backhanded pass into the slot to Gabriel Desjardins who finished off the play with a backhanded shot which beat Stingrays goaltender Adam Morrison for the goal at 16:40 of the opening frame.
South Carolina tied the game in the second period on the power play. Wayne Simpson skated the puck to left wing circle and snapped a shot high over the shoulder of ‘Blades netminder Allen York to tie the game at one.
Nearly six minutes later, Florida grabbed the lead back. Rookie defenseman Patrick McEachen blasted a slapshot from the point that was stopped off the leg pad of Morrison, but the puck bounced right to forward Corey Trivino who immediately fired the rebound shot into the net for the go-ahead marker.
Adam Brace one-timed a shot from up high that ripped past Morrison for Florida’s third tally of the night at 3:10 of the third period.
The Stingrays were awarded a 5-on-3 power play opportunity for more than a minute, but the Everblades second ranked penalty kill unit was able to kill off both penalties to keep the score locked at 3-1.
Brace then set up the insurance marker at 10:46 by firing a shot off the pad of Morrison which bounced to Chris Kushneriuk who buried the rebound to seal the 4-1 Everblades victory.
York earned his fifth win of the season stopping 16 of 17 shots faced, while Morrison takes the loss allowing four goals on 35 shots.
