ESTERO, FL – Former Everblades goaltender Scott Darling made his National Hockey League debut Sunday evening helping the Chicago Blackhawks defeat the Ottawa Senators by a 4-1 score. Darling becomes the 51st Everblades player to have played in the NHL, and is the 30th Everblade to be listed as an “ECHL Graduate” (Played in ECHL before reaching NHL). Darling, 25, nets the win stopping 32 of 33 shots faced in his NHL debut Sunday, with an impressive 1.00 goals against average and a .970 save percentage. His performance earned him the game’s first star. The 6-6, 232-pound netminder made one appearance with the Everblades in a 6-5 road loss at Greenville on November 29, 2011. Darling went on to post productive seasons with the Wheeling Nailers (2012-13) and the Cincinnati Cyclones (2013-14). Darling has posted a 15-6-2 record in 28 appearances in the American Hockey League with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Milwaukee Admirals, and Rockford IceHogs. The Lemont, IL native is a sixth round draft selection of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Darling played two seasons at the University of Maine from 2008-2010. Darling becomes the second former Everblades to make his NHL debut this season. Forward Brody Sutter made his NHL debut with the Carolina Hurricanes on October 16 against the New York Rangers.
