ESTERO, FL – Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Brad Ralph announced Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms with forward Joe Cox for the 2018-19 season.
Cox, 24, returns to the Everblades where he pieced together an impressive rookie campaign, posting 54 points (22g, 32a) in 70 regular season games. In addition, Cox also added 16 points (6g, 10a) in 21 postseason appearances this past spring. Cox was the recipient of the team’s Rookie of the Year Award after finishing fifth in the league in rookie scoring.
“We are excited to announce Joe Cox will be returning next season," said Ralph. "Joe exemplifies the type of work ethic, attitude and team first character that has helped shape the culture and success of the 'Blades.”
Cox appeared in five games with the Everblades after concluding his senior season at Michigan State University in 2016-17. The 5-11, 173-pound forward recorded 14 points (7g, 7a) in 35 games during that year with the Spartans. Cox captained the Spartans for two seasons, totaling 69 points (27g, 42a) during his four-year collegiate career (2013-2017). The Chelsea, Michigan native also totaled 60 points in two seasons with the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks 2011-2013.
Cox becomes the team’s first player to agree to terms for the 2018-19 season. The Everblades' home opening weekend is set for October 19 & 20 against the Norfolk Admirals.
