WORCESTER, MA – Former Everblade Vinny Muto recorded a goal and two assists to help lead the Worcester Railers (18-19-3-2, 41) pts to a 3-2 come from behind victory over the Florida Everblades (30-9-1-3, 64 pts) Sunday afternoon at the DCU Center.
Matt Mackenzie got the ‘Blades on the board first with a power play strike. Clark Seymour sent the puck up to Mackenzie at the blue line. Mackenzie blasted a wicked shot that sent the puck through traffic and past the blocker of Worcester goaltender Mitch Gillam.
Frankie DiChiara would tie the game at 1-1 midway through the second when he DiChiara when he slipped his quick shot from the left wing boards past a completely screened Callum Booth.
Florida reclaimed the lead in the second period when John McCarron banged home a shorthanded rebound chance to put the ‘Blades up 2-1. Justin Kea created a turnover and brought the puck into the Worcester zone before ripping a shot from the right wing circle. The puck nbounced off the body of Mitch Gillam, the rebound was quickly shoved into the back of the net by an onrushing McCarron.
Former Everblades’ defenseman Vinny Muto tied the game at 2-2 just minutes into the third period. Collecting a pass from Chris Langkow at the low circle, Muto made a nice move to get into the slot. Muto fired the puck just past the outstretched pad of Callum Booth and into the net.
Jeff Kubiak put the Railers up 3-2 midway through the third period. Kubiak moved quickly to get to the left wing circle and delivered a quick shot towards goal. Kubiak skipped the puck right past the glove of Callum Booth.
The ‘Blades could just not find a way to get back into the game. Despite having the extra attacker late in the contest, the Everblades failed to find the back, condemning them to a 3-2 defeat.
Mitch Gillam was strong in goal for the Railers, earning the win after stopping 28 of the 30 shots he faced. Callum Booth also made some good saves but does suffer the loss in goal for the ‘Blades after allowing three goals on 31 shots.
The Everblades will now return home to face off against the rival Greenville Swamp Rabbits this Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
