NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Domenic Monardo finished with a goal and an assist to help lead the South Carolina Stingrays to a 4-2 victory over the Florida Everblades in Game 4 of the South Division Finals on Wednesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Stingrays now take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
After a scoreless first, the Stingrays would break the scoreless tie on a 2-on-1 opportunity. Steven McParland slipped a shot past Florida goaltender Anthony Peters for a tally to put the score at 1-0 at 1:36 of the second.
Nearly 90 seconds later, South Carolina was awarded a penalty shot. Domenic Monardo received the opportunity and made it count, beating Florida goaltender Anthony Peters to give the Stingrays a 2-0 edge.
South Carolina extended its lead further following a 2-on-0 opportunity that was put home by Rob Flick. Following the goal, and despite not receiving much support in front of him, Peters would give way to Alex Nedeljkovic who entered the game in a relief effort.
The Everblades found some momentum at 12:38 of the middle frame when John McCarron delivered a shot that beat Stingrays goaltender Parker Milner on the shortside to put Florida on the board.
Four minutes later, the ‘Blades pulled within one on wrister from Stephen MacAulay that clipped past Milner to put the score at 3-2.
In the third, the ‘Blades continued to press to find the equalizer, but Milner turned aside all ten shots faced in the final stanza. South Carolina added an empty netter in the final minutes to seal the 4-2 victory.
Milner earns the win allowing two goals on 30 shots faced, while Peters the loss allowing three goals on 12 shots. Alex Nedeljkovic stopped all 12 shots faced in a relief effort.The two teams will meet in Game 5 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Thursday, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
