Everblades Suffer Shutout Loss in Brampton to Close Road Trip

Written by Robert Molnar

BRAMPTON, ON – Chris Auger, Willie Corrin, and David Vallorani each scored a goal while Zachary Fucale stopped all of the 42 shots faced to lead the Brampton Beast (31-16-3-4, 69 pts) to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Florida Everblades (36-12-2-3, 77 pts) Sunday afternoon at the Powerade Center. The game marked the first game ever played in Canada by the Everblades in the team’s 19-year history. The Everblades close out the lengthy six-game road trip with a 3-3-0 mark.

Throughout the course of the first period, both Brampton and the ‘Blades had some scoring chances. With six total power plays boosting these chances, it looked certain that one of the two teams would score sooner rather than later. However, thanks to some good goaltending by both Everblades goaltender Anthony Peters and Brampton netminder Zachary Fucale, the first period would end scoreless.

The second period played just like the opening frame for the most part. With both goaltenders again making some great saves, it looked like the game could be scoreless as we entered the third period. However, with just over two minutes remaining in the middle frame, Brampton would score the game’s opening goal on a nice move in front of goal by Chris Auger.

Chris Auger looked to be thrown a bit off balance by the puck. Recovering, Auger continued his spinning motion and began to take aim at Anthony Peters. Firing a quick shot once he had once again turned to face goal, Auger lifted the puck over the shoulder of Peters and into the net.

Brampton doubled their lead on a slap shot through traffic just over a minute into the period. Receiving a pass from Brandon Marino, Willie Corrin corralled the puck at the point. Blasting a heavy slap shot through some traffic Corrin watched as the puck blazed its way past the glove of Anthony Peters.

With the game firmly in their grasp, Brampton delivered a death blow to the Everblades midway through the final frame. David Vallorani picked up the loose puck on the right wing boards and hurled the puck towards goal. Catching Peters off guard, the puck snuck past the pads of the goaltender and buried itself into the back of the net.

Though the Everblades would continue to mount an offensive push, the team could not find a way to beat Zachary Fucale. Making some great saves during the closing stretch of the contest, Fucale secured the 3-0 shutout victory for Brampton.

Zachary Fucale was excellent in goal for the Beast, earning the shutout victory after stopping all of the 42 shots he faced. Anthony Peters played well in goal for the ‘Blades but suffers the loss after allowing three goals on 26 shots.  The ‘Blades were shutout for the first time this season.
