'Blades Unbeaten Streak Ends as the Thunder Rolls 3-1

Release Written by Robert Molnar

GLENS FALLS, NY  – Ty Loney scored twice while Brian Ward added two assists to lead the Adirondack Thunder (10-3-1-2, 23 pts) to a 3-1 victory over the Florida Everblades (10-1-1-2, 23 pts) on Tuesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The result also gives the Everblades their first regulation loss after starting the season with a 13-game unbeaten streak.

Following an extremely tough opening period, both teams entered the middle frame looking for the game’s first goal. Taking advantage of a power play opportunity, the Thunder cashed in off a rebound opportunity to take a 1-0 lead. Controlling the puck in the ‘Blades zone, Peter MacArthur flipped his shot towards the net. Saved by ‘Blades goaltender Anthony Peters, the rebound sent the puck right to Ty Loney whose quick shot sent the puck into the open net.

Beginning to up the pressure on the Thunder, the ‘Blades tied the game up midway through the second period as Brant Harris extended his goal-scoring streak to four games. Getting the puck down towards the goal, Peter Schneider fired the puck clean off of Adirondack goaltender Mason McDonald. Picking up the rebound, Harris took a backhanded shot that saw the puck squeeze between McDonald and the short side post.

Entering the third period tied, Adirondack wasted no time taking back their one-goal lead. Pressuring the ‘Blades deep in their own zone, the puck was thrown blindly from behind the net. Getting just past the crease, the puck was cut-off by Gunnar Hughes whose quick blast sent the puck past the blocker of Anthony Peters.

Doubling their lead a few minutes later, Ty Loney scored his second of the night for the Thunder to put them up 3-1. Moving down towards the Everblades net, Brian Ward fought through some traffic before shuffling the puck towards a waiting Loney. Positioned in the slot, Loney soared the puck past Anthony Peters and into the top half of the net.

Despite a late charge by the ‘Blades to try and get back into the game, the puck would just not take any Florida bounces. Even with the goaltender pulled to gain an extra attacker late in the game, the ‘Blades could not find the goals they needed. With the clock hitting triple zeros, Adirondack took the 3-1 victory and handed the Everblades their first regulation loss of the season.

Mason McDonald was fantastic in goal for the Thunder, earning the win after stopping 28 of the 29-shots he faced. Anthony Peters had a tough night in goal for the Everblades as he suffers the loss after allowing three goals on 17-shots.

The Florida Everblades continue on their northeast road trip with a game Wednesday night against the Manchester Monarchs. The game will represent the first ever game between the two teams.
