ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Everblades look to build on last night's 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Gladiators as they face off once again in The Swamp with a 7 p.m. puck drop.
Last night, the Blades remained scoreless in the opening frame but delivered in the second and third periods when Jeremie Baikabutuka and Colin Theisen saw past Atlanta goaltender Drew DeRidder to put the Blades ahead with a one-goal advantage. Mike O’Leary sealed the deal when he buried the empty-netter in the final minutes of the third period. Goaltender Cam Johnson turned away 19 consecutive shots, helping the Blades go 3-0 on the penalty kill.
For Atlanta, Joey Cipollone scored his team's first and only goal early in the first period. Atlanta ended with 21 shots against Florida's 35 and saw a combined six minutes in the penalty box for elbowing, tripping and interference.
The Blades will look to complete the two-game sweep with another strong performance on home ice tonight at 7 p.m. before heading on the road for a series of away games, starting in Atlanta on Wednesday, October 30.
