Everblades Look to Split Series with Icemen

ESTERO, Fla. – Two quick goals to begin the second period were not enough to force a comeback against the Jacksonville Icemen last night, as the Florida Everblades fell 5-3 at Hertz Arena. The Blades look to split the series tonight, Mar. 30 at 7:00 p.m., and earn some much-needed points.

Whenever the Blades found a foothold in the game, the Icemen seemed to score immediately after. In the second period, the two quick tying goals were answered by Jacksonville to retake the lead. In the third, another tying tally by the Blades was doused just moments later by the Icemen.

Cole Moberg tallied his second and third goals of the season in the fall. The first came moments into the second period on a high-slot wrister. The second came on a backhand chop at the bottom of the left circle that trickled through netminder Matt Vernon’s gear into the back of the net in the third period.

Elsewhere in the South Division last night the South Carolina Stingrays bested Greenville in overtime, and the Orlando Solar Bears fell to Savannah in regulation. With those results, Greenville secured its place in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, the Stingrays sit at 79 points and are in sole possession of third place in the South, and Orlando remains one point behind the Everblades. Florida currently occupies the final playoff position in the division with 77 points in fourth place.

Saturday will be our Marvel Superhero Night at Hertz Arena. Come cheer on the Blades as the team wears special, Miles Morales-inspired uniforms against Jacksonville!
