ESTERO, Fla. – After a feisty finish to the weekend series against the Savannah Ghost Pirates – culminating in a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon – the Florida Everblades are back home for a midweek matchup against the Atlanta Gladiators. Game time from Hertz Arena is Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Florida enters the game on a four-game winning streak, with each of those Ws coming over Savannah across the last two weeks. Over the course of those four games, the Everblades outscored the Ghost Pirates 21-9. That metric was helped along by a Cam Johnson shutout in the Jan. 13 victory. 

The Atlanta Gladiators snapped a three-game skid just last night with a 7-6 shootout win over the Orlando Solar Bears. Both teams fired home 44 shots on net, but not even overtime was enough for the two sides in Orlando. In the end, it was Micah Miller who converted the winner for Atlanta. 

Despite the tenacious win last night, the Gladiators remain in last place of the South Division with 30 points. And even though the Blades are stringing together wins, they remain below the playoff line in fifth place. However, the margin between fifth place and a playoff position has never been closer.  Currently, the Everblades – in fifth place with 43 points – are just two points behind Orlando in second place with 45 points. Every point it crucial in the South Division, and this year’s playoff race promises to be a photo finish. 

Wednesday will just be a one-game meeting between the Everblades and Gladiators. After the game, the two sides won’t meet again until the first week of April.
