Everblades Triple Up Gladiators For Fourth Straight Win

ESTERO, Fla. Three different goal scorers and two-point nights from Brett Davis and Nathan Staios lifted the Florida Everblades to a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Gladiators before a sellout crowd of 7,416 fans on hand to celebrate our beloved mascot Swampee’s birthday Saturday night at Hertz Arena. The victory was the fourth-straight win for the Everblades.

Florida’s Cam Hausinger opened the scoring with a power-play tally at 8:02 of the first period with Staios and Zach Tsekos earning the assists on the first man-up shift enjoyed by either team. Hausinger buried the puck for his second goal of the year to give the Blades a 1-0 lead. Atlanta was quick to respond as Alex Whelan evened the score at one goal apiece at the 9:19 mark, a score that would stand through the remainder of the opening frame.

The Everblades regained the lead at 3:12 of the second period, as Davis rifled home his first goal in a Blades sweater from the right circle for a 2-1 lead. Oliver Chau and Joe Pendenza registered the assists on the only goal of the middle stanza.

Staios gave the Everblades some breathing room in the third period, closing out the scoring with his third goal of the year at the 7:18 mark, putting the good guys on top 3-1, with Davis and Blake Murray Cole Moberg earning the helpers.

With Florida outshooting Altanta 31-27, Cam Johnson made 26 saves to claim his fourth-straight win and improved to 5-4-0-0. The Everblades handed Atlanta’s Gustavs Grigals his first loss of the season after 4-0-0-0 start, despite making 28 saves.

With a three-game set in the rear-view mirror, the Everblades will close out November and welcome December with four games on the road. The team will make a quick stop in Jacksonville for a 7:00 p.m. game on Friday, November 24, before heading to Upstate New York for three games against the Adirondack Thunder on Wednesday, November 29, Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2, with all three games slated for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop. The Blades return home to open a five-game homestand with a three-game series against South Carolina on Wednesday, December 6, Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December. The first two game are slated for 7:30 p.m., with Saturday’s tilt getting underway at 7:00 p.m.  Visit floridaeverblades.com for more information and to purchase tickets.

BLADES BITS

The Everblades’ four-game winning streak is the club’s longest of the 2023-34 season and matches the longest victory streak of the 2022-23 campaign, when the Blades strung four straight W’s together from October 22-November 5 and again from January 14-21. In last season’s Kelly Cup Playoffs, the Blades posted a winning streak of five games early in the playoffs, before ending the postseason with six straight victories on the path to a second consecutive Kelly Cup.

Cam Hausinger scored for the second-straight game and his first-period goal gave the Everblades power-play goals in consecutive games for the first time this season. With two power-play markers in Friday night’s 6-2 victory, Hausinger’s goal gave the Blades three man-up goals in the two victories over Atlanta. In the 11 games prior to the series with the Gladiators, Florida had recorded just three power-play goals.

Brett Davis’ second-period goal gave the pride of Oakbank, Manitoba the first point of his professional career in just his second game with the Everblades. David previously saw action in five games with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose in the 2020-21 season before spending the next two seasons with the University of Manitoba.

Oliver Chau has registered assists in four consecutive games for the Everblades, while Joe Pendenza has notched points in three-straight contests and Nathan Staios has points in back-to-back games.

The Blades have handed the Gladiators two of their three consecutive losses, after Atlanta opened the campaign with eight straight wins. Seven of those eight wins were by multiple-goal margins, while the eighth came in overtime.
