ESTERO, Fla. – Off a thrilling road win on Sunday against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, the Florida Everblades hit the road once again to take on the Orlando Solar Bears Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Amway Center.
Orlando and Florida have already met five times this season – twice in Orlando and three times in Estero. Across those games, the Everblades hold a 3-2 record over their in-state rivals, with two of those wins coming in Central Florida. Goaltending has been key for the Everblades in every win against the Solar Bears. In the season opener, Cam Johnson made 36 saves en route to a 4-3 shootout win. A week later, Evan Cormier turned aside 43 shots in his first game as an Everblade for the 2-1 W in Orlando. Just a few days later, Cormier would stand tall again with a 4-0 shutout victory at Hertz Arena.
The Solar Bear’s two wins in the season series came after Cormier’s shutout, back-to-back 4-2 games in Estero. Those two wins against Florida, and two more later the next week against South Carolina and Savannah had Orlando on a four-game winning streak, but that was broken on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to the Ghost Pirates.
Entering Wednesday’s clash, The Solar Bears sit a 5-4-1 and in third place in the south division, while the Everblades are 4-5-1 in fifth place.
The road matchup against Orlando sets up two home games against the division-leading Atlanta Gladiators on Nov. 17 and Nov. 18 at Hertz Arena.
