EVERBLADES COME UP SHORT IN SAVANNAH

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Florida Everblades couldn’t pull off a comeback against the Savannah Ghost Pirates Sunday afternoon, falling 4-3 in their final meeting against the ECHL’s newest team this season.

After falling in a shootout last night to Savannah, the Everblades wanted revenge. However, Pat Guay would score the game’s first goal early in the first period. It’s the fourth straight game where Florida’s opponent has drawn first blood.

Late in the first, Savannah would extend their lead on a shorthanded two-on-one finished off by Alex Swetlikoff. That goal is the first shorthanded tally the Everblades have allowed since January 11. The Ghost Pirates held a 2-0 lead after the first.

Robert Calisti brought the Everblades within one with his tenth goal of the season early in the second to pull Florida within one, but Tristan Thompson responded just 17 seconds later to restore Savannah’s two-goal edge. Late in the middle frame, Brent Pedersen scored on a power play to give Savannah a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.

The Everblades pushed hard in the third, getting goals from Brad Morrison and Jake Smith to get within a goal, but couldn’t tie the game before the final buzzer. Florida outshot Savannah 43-30.

Florida finishes the road trip 0-2-0-1 and have now dropped four straight matchups. In the season series, the Everblades’ record against the Ghost Pirates finished at 4-2-0-1.

On Wednesday, March 8, Florida returns to Hertz Arena to start a three-game set against the South Carolina Stingrays. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. and the hump day deals, featuring $3 hot dogs and Bud Light drafts, last all game long.
