ESTERO, Fla. – General manager Craig Brush, alongside Director of hockey operations and head coach Brad Ralph, announced that the Charlotte Checkers have assigned defenseman Zach Uens to the Florida Everblades.
Uens, 21, is in the first year of a three-year NHL entry level contract he signed back in March 2022. The Florida Panthers drafted the left-shot defenseman in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. This is his first full season of professional hockey after three seasons at Merrimack College.
So far this year, Uens has one goal and three assists in 19 games with the Charlotte Checkers, after playing six games with the Everblades’ AHL affiliate last season.
The Belleville, Ontario local played junior hockey with the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, where he won the league championship in 2018 and was named the league’s top prospect in 2019.
Uens joins an Everblades squad that sits in first place in the South Division. He is expected to make his Everblades debut on Wednesday, January 25 at Hertz Arena against the South Carolina Stingrays.
