ESTERO, FL – Gabriel Desjardins’ goal in the fourth round of the overtime shootout lifted the Everblades to a 3-2 win over the Greenville Road Warriors Wednesday night at Germain Arena. Florida extends its winning streak to five games.
The Everblades scored two goals in 38 seconds to grab a quick 2-0 lead in the first period. The first goal came at 4:12 of the opening frame when Jordan Henry slid a pass across the ice to Alex Lavoie to the left of the crease. Lavoie lifted a shot high into the net past the glove of Greenville goaltender Jason Missiaen for the tally.
Just seconds later, Brant Harris saucered the puck from the right wing circle to a wide open Adam Brace at the low slot. Brace made a deke move, and then wristed the puck past Missiaen’s blocker to extend the Florida lead to 2-0.
Greenville got on the board late in the second on a power play tally from Ryan Hegarty. Hegarty sprinted into the zone uncontested after an Everblades player slipped and lost an edge at the blue line. Hegarty carved a backhanded shot past the glove of Everblades goaltender Anthony Peters.
The goal broke up a shutout streak of nearly 97 minutes by Peters who appeared in just his second professional game on Wednesday Peters had recorded a shutout in his pro debut last Friday in Greenville.
Greenville evened the score at two early in the second, when the newly acquired forward Anthony Luciani cruised into the zone a step ahead of the defender and snapped a shot high into the corner of the net for the goal.
Both teams kept it tight for the remainder of regulation, and each team has some quality chances in overtime, but both goaltenders turned aside everything thrown their way to send the game into the shootout.
Matt Marquardt scored in the first round of the shootout for Florida, while Peters stopped the first four Greenville shooters. Gabriel Desjardins, who was reassigned to the Everblades from the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) earlier in the day, scored the game winner in the shootout to seal the 3-2 win for Florida.
Peters earned the win making 24 saves on 26 shots, while Missiaen takes the loss allowing two goals on 29 shots faced.
