EVERBLADES NAB HUGE WIN OVER ICEMEN

ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Everblades scored four straight goals for a 4-2 victory over the Jacksonville Icemen on Wednesday, April 5.

After 20 minutes of action, neither team found the back of the net. Florida led the shot clock 13-7 after the opening period.

Early in the second, Matheson Iacopelli stole the puck at his own blue line and streaked down the ice on a breakaway where he pulled off a nice move to give Jacksonville the lead. However, the Everblades responded just 23 seconds later with Sean Josling jamming home his seventh goal with Florida to tie the game.

Late in the middle frame, with Florida on the power play, Will Calverley fired the puck upstairs from a sharp angle for his first professional goal. The Everblades maintained that lead to the end of the period. Jacksonville outshot Florida 17-13 in the second.

Nathan Staios extended Florida’s lead in the third period with his fourth goal of the season off a feed from John McCarron, and Cam Darcy added an empty netter stretch the lead. Cristiano DiGiacinto scored with 11 seconds remaining to pull Jacksonville back within two goals, but it was too late as the Everblades improved to 37-22-4-4 on the season.

Florida and Jacksonville tied each other on the shot clock with 34 shots each. Cam Johnson grabbed the win with 32 saves while Charles Williams was saddled with the loss in a 30-save effort.

The Everblades move within two points of clinching a playoff spot and tie the Icemen for second in the South Division.

Florida next goes to South Carolina for a pair of games against the South Carolina Stingrays, their final two road games of the regular season. The first game comes Friday, April 7 at 7:00 and will be broadcast on FLO Hockey and ESPN Southwest Florida.
