ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Everblades clinched their playoff spot with a 4-2 win Wednesday over the Savannah Ghost Pirates, and now take on Savannah again at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14 on Country Night.
Florida is the first team in the ECHL to officially clinch a postseason berth this year. The three-time defending Kelly Cup champions qualified for the postseason for the 26th time in 27 seasons of hockey in Southwest Florida.
Meanwhile, Savannah is now in dire straits after the loss Wednesday. The Ghost Pirates are 17 points behind the Orlando Solar Bears with just 14 games left on their schedule, including five against Florida, who they have beaten only once in six matches this season.
The Everblades have 13 games, including this one, remaining on their regular season schedule. Florida’s main focus now shifts to taking the top spot in the South Division – the South Carolina Stingrays and Jacksonville Icemen are only one and five points back of Florida, respectively. Florida last won the South Division in the regular season in 2022.
