ESTERO, Fla. – After a nail-biting 3-2 overtime victory last night, the Florida Everblades are set to face the Kalamazoo Wings for a third consecutive match tonight, Saturday, November 23 at 7 p.m. to end the Blades’ homestand.
Last night’s game showcased the Blades' resilience after falling behind in the first period, going into the first intermission trailing 1-0.
The second period saw no change as both teams remained scoreless. However, Florida’s relentless offensive pressure resulted in a 22-16 shot advantage by the end of 40 minutes.
The Blades’ persistence paid off in the third period, where a flurry of action saw Carson Gicewicz and Jesse Lansdell deliver back-to-back goals just 23 seconds apart to claim a brief lead. This was short lived as Kalamazoo’s Joseph Arntsen equalized with under half the frame to play, forcing three-on-thee hockey.
The seven minute overtime included four shots on goal total with both teams generating two in an electrifying back-and-forth. This was until Colin Theisen fired home the game-winner with helo from Kade Landry to claim game two and establish their series lead.
The Blades outshot Kalamazoo 34-24 with goaltender Will Cranley maintaining his composure in the crease for just under 64 minutes of regulation and overtime hockey.
Tonight’s contest at 7 p.m. marks an opportunity for the Blades to finish Kalamazoo in a series sweep before embarking on a five-game road trip where they will face both the Fort Wayne Komets and the Jacksonville Icemen.
