ESTERO, Fla. – Following a 3-2 overtime victory against the Jacksonville Icemen to open the 2024-25 season, the Florida Everblades are set to gear up against the Atlanta Gladiators this Friday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. on home ice.
After trailing by two going into the second period, Oliver Chau flipped the script with a rebounded snapshot to claim the first goal of the season and put the Blades on the board. Despite being in a deficit, the Blades ended the middle frame outshooting Jacksonville 15-9 in a hunt to establish dominance.
Their efforts paid off when returning player Andrew Fyten saw past goaltender, Matt Vernon to level the playing field at two and send the game to overtime. With momentum on their side, Anton Malmström netted the OT winner, finishing the Blades’ time in Jacksonville and setting the tone to face Atlanta.
Last season, Atlanta finished 28th in overall league standing, ranking 10th in penalty killing and 20th on the power play, while the Blades ranked second in penalty killing, 14th on the power play and eighth overall.
This Friday will mark the first time the teams meet since the 2023-24 regular season and since the Everblades secured their third consecutive Kelly Cup championship.
As the Blades aim to carry their early-season momentum into Friday’s matchup, they're also looking to extend their winning streak and build on their strong start from Jacksonville, in The Swamp.
