ESTERO, Fla. – After a blistering, come-from-behind victory in Game Three of the Kelly Cup Finals, the Florida Everblades look to extend upon their 2-1 series lead over the Kansas City Mavericks. The 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs presented by Germain Lexus and Scanlon Lexus carry on with Game Four on Friday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. from Hertz Arena.
Game Three looked dire for the Everblades, as the Mavericks took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. Two of those K.C. goals were scored by David Cotton, who played seven games with the Everblades earlier this season. Mark Senden made it a one-goal game in the second period, before an incredible four-goal third period to seal the game 6-3. In the third period, Oliver Chau produced a hat trick in a 16:46 span to catapult Florida to the win, and secure first-star honors.
Wednesday’s win was only the second time this postseason the Everblades did not score the first goal and still won. The other instance was Game Two of the opening round against Jacksonville when Florida won 2-1 in overtime. Entering Game Three, the Blades were 0-4-1 when trailing after the first period, and 0-5 after trailing at the end of two.
Logan Lambdin also produced a multi-goal game, finding the back of the net in the first and third periods. Jordan Sambrook and Josh Ho-Sang both produced two assist evenings.
The Blades haven’t scored a goal on the power play in the Kelly Cup Finals, but do have one shorthanded goal in Game One. The Mavericks are 7-for-7 on the penalty kill up to this point. On the other side of that equation, Kansas City has been deadly on the man advantage, scoring four goals from 13 opportunities.
Game Four will be the penultimate Everblades game at Hertz Arena for the 2023-24 season. Game Five is to be played on Saturday, June 8 in Estero. The Blades look to extend their advantage in the Kelly Cup Finals and take a controlling stake in the series. Fans, be sure to wear green for all Finals games at Hertz Arena this week!
