ESTERO, Fla. – After two difficult losses to Jacksonville, the Florida Everblades are on the road for the penultimate weekend of regular season play. Florida will take on the Atlanta Gladiators for two games before facing Savannah in the closer. Game one of this three-game stint will be played tonight, Thursday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Gas South Arena.
The losses this past weekend have not pushed the Eveblades out of a playoff position. Florida is currently tied with Orlando at 77 points for fourth place in the South with a game in hand. The Solar Bears just fell in a shootout loss to the Savannah Ghost Pirates on Tuesday night, giving them the one point to tie with the Blades.
Atlanta remains as the bottom team in the South Division, with a 21-42-3 record. Eight of those wins came in the first eight games on the season. While Atlanta will not be playing postseason hockey, they are still a formidable team that has bested the top teams in the division at times this season. Just last night, the Gladiators shut out the Jacksonville Icemen 4-0 in front of a home crowd.
The Everblades will face off with the Gladiators for two games tonight and Friday, then drive to the coast to play Savannah for one game. Florida will then return to Hertz Arena next week for the final three games of the regular season. These are all crucial games as the Blades hunt for a third consecutive Kelly Cup.
