Everblades Look to Take Series Against Stingrays

ESTERO, Fla – After a 5-1 win on Friday and a 5-2 defeat last night, the Florida Everblades wrap up this three-game series with the Stingrays on Sunday, Mar. 3 with a chance to take the series and gain ground on the South Division. Puck drop from the North Charleston Coliseum is set for 3:05 p.m.

Most of the game’s scoring took place in the first period. Logan Lambdin and Zach Uens scored for the Everblades, while Jonny Evans and Austin Magera potted the two Stingray goals to enter the first intermission tied at two. After that, Florida would not score again for the rest of the contest. The Rays netted one goal in the second period, and two more in the third to take the 5-2 result.

Saturday’s game was physical, old-style hockey chock full of penalties. The Blades and Stingrays combined for 72 minutes worth of penalties, including six fighting majors, four roughing calls, and two ten-minute misconducts. Across all that time in the sin bin, Florida went 0-3 on the power play, while South Carolina was 1-2; scoring its final goal of the game on the man advantage.

Ludovic Waeber made his first start in an Everblades uniform since being sent down from Charlotte in the AHL, turning aside 16 of the 21 shots he faced. His counterpart, Garin Bjorklund, stopped 31 of the 33 chances.

The Everblades are back home for two home games next weekend, the first is Wednesday, Mar. 6 against the Jacksonville Icemen. The second is on Friday, Mar. 8 as Florida hosts the Orlando Solar Bears.
