ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Everblades are back in action after a heart-stopping 2-1 overtime win on Wednesday over the Jacksonville Icemen. Florida now shifts its focus to Friday’s game against the Orlando Solar Bears. Puck drop for the Mar. 8 matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. at Hertz Arena.
Mark Senden electrified the home crowd on Wednesday night when he batted a fluttering puck out of the air and into the back of the net to seal the overtime victory. The win, a season first over the Jacksonville Icemen, snapped a two-game skid from the final two games against the South Carolina Stingrays last weekend. The important result gave the Blades a three-point cushion in fourth place of the South Division.
That advantage was quickly erased on Thursday night when Orlando beat Jacksonville 3-1 at the Kia Center. The Solar Bears win snaps a two-game skid of their own and narrows that aforementioned gap in the division to just one point. Friday’s meeting at Hertz Arena will be the finale of a three-day, three-game stretch for Orlando. In the opener, the Solar Bears fell to Greenville 2-1 before beating the Icemen.
Friday will be the first of four matchups between the Solar Bears and Everblades in March. The three games following this are all mid-week contests scattered throughout the month in Orlando.
