North Charleston, S.C. – Wrapping up a game that was slated to be completed on Dec. 23, the Florida Everblades again skated into the North Charleston Coliseum, but this time they skated away with a victory, winning 6-3 on Saturday night.
The Blades and Stingrays both had one goal at the resumption of play, and both added one goal each in the first period. Will Reilly re-started the scoring with a finish in front of the net, taking the feed from Kyle Neuber. That goal gave the Blades a 2-1 lead with just over five minutes to play in the period. But Colin Swoyer would tie the game at two in the dying moments of the first frame. The two teams went to the locker room square.
In the second, Florida wasted no time getting back on the score sheet, as Oliver Chau netted another goal on a wicked snipe. Joe Pendenza then added another Blades goal eight minutes later to bring the score to 4-2. The first line dominated the middle period, and the Blades held on to a 4-2 lead at the second intermission.
It was the Blades again drawing first blood at the start of the third period. Off a clean faceoff win by Mark Senden, Stanislav Demin lasered a wrister into the back of the net to bring Florida’s advantage to three.
In the closing minutes of the game, the Stingrays pulled starting netminder Mitchell Gibson for the extra skater and scored immediately. Jack Adams fired the puck past Cam Johnson to cut the lead to two. However, Senden would pot an empty netter to set the score at 6-3, where It would finish.
Blades netminder Johnson stopped 35 of the 38 shots he saw and took second-star honors. Gibson saved 13 of 18 for the Stingrays.
The Blades will be back in action on Monday night for a meeting with the Orlando Solar Bears. Puck drop on Monday, Mar. 18 at the Kia Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
