ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Everblades take a brief break from South Division play this week, but that doesn’t mean a break from fantastic hockey. Meeting the Blades in SWFL is the number one team in the North Division, the Adirondack Thunder. Florida and Adirondack are set to play a three-game series. Game one takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Hertz Arena.
The Thunder have rumbled their way through the ECHL, holding the best record in the Eastern Conference, and the second-best record in the league. Adirondack has taken points in each of its last 17 games and hasn’t lost in regulation since Dec. 29 against the Maine Mariners. Since that loss, the Thunder marched to a 14-0-2-1 record and a 16-point cushion in first place of the North.
The Everblades played some tough matchups in recent days, taking a 0-3-1-1 record in their past five games with losses to the Swamp Rabbits, the Icemen, and the Ghost Pirates. The Blades’ last win came on Jan. 24, with a 4-1 victory at home over the Atlanta Gladiators. Despite the recent losses, Florida is still firmly in the playoff chase in fifth place of the division, just one point shy of fourth place.
Adirondack won’t be the only North Division foe Florida sees this month. In two weeks, the Worcester Railers come to town for a three-game set on Feb. 21, 23, and 24.
