Blades Look for First Win Against Icemen

ESTERO, Fla. – In the wake of a demanding 4-3 shootout loss to the Orlando Solar Bears on Wednesday night, the Florida Everblades begin an equally demanding weekend: three games in three days against South Division opponents. That slog begins Friday night, Feb. 16, with a trip to Duval County, and a 7:00 p.m. meeting with the Jacksonville Icemen from VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Icemen are currently one of the best teams in the league, with a 28-15-4 record and 60 points. They sit at second place in the south division, just six points behind leading Greenville. But Jacksonville is also one of the hottest teams in the ECHL. The Icemen have won seven of their last eight games, and the lone loss came in overtime, extending a point streak to the entirety of those eight games.

Florida is also on a bit of a streak of its own, having notched points in its last five games. The Everblades fell to Savannah in overtime, swept Adirondack in three games, and lost to Orlando in the shootout. That point streak has helped Florida into a tie for the fourth and final playoff position. The Everblades hold the current advantage over the Solar Bears due to having two games in hand. Friday’s matchup will be another opportunity for Florida to find it’s first win of the season against Jacksonville. So far this season, the Icemen are 5-0 against the Everblades.

The three-game road series wraps up with two games against South Carolina on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday’s game will be the final divisional game in the month of February before a jam-packed March.
