ESTERO, Fla. – Hitting the road once again, the Florida Everblades head north to Duval County to take on their in-state foes, the Jacksonville Icemen. The final game of January gets underway at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31 from VyStar Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Everblades look to put two tough losses to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in the rear-view mirror. On Friday, Florida surrendered a goal late in the third period before falling in the shootout. On Saturday, the Swamp Rabbits outlasted the Everblades en route to a 1-0 result. Before those two contests against Greenville, Florida was on a five-game winning streak.
Jacksonville wrapped up last weekend with two dominant wins over the Savannah Ghost Pirates, 6-1 and 6-2. Riley Fiddle-Shultz scored three goals across the two wins for the Icemen. Jacksonville sits in third place of the division, ahead of Orlando in fourth place, but behind South Carolina in third.
The Everblades and Icemen have met three previous times this season, with Jacksonville taking three victories. The most recent of those games came on Dec. 20, when Florida fell 4-3 on the road.
Wednesday’s meeting is the first of three consecutive road games for the Everblades. The first of those is the game against the Icemen, while the second and third are a two-game series against the Savannah Ghost Pirates. Florida won’t be back home until Feb. 7, when the Blades host the Adirondack Thunder for a three-game set at Hertz Arena.
