ESTERO, Fla. – Now the winners of five straight after a 4-1 win over the Atlanta Gladiators on Wednesday, the Florida Everblades welcome in the top team in the South Division when the Greenville Swamp Rabbits take to the ice for two games. The first of those games is on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Hertz Arena.
For the first time in 2024, the Blades find themselves above the playoff line after Wednesday’s win. With 45 points, Florida sits in fourth place of the South Division, just ahead of the South Carolina Stingrays in fifth place.
Greenville, on the other hand, has owned a commanding presence at the top of the division and stands alone with 57 points. That’s second best in the ECHL, only behind Kansas City with 58 points. The Swamp Rabbits last played on Sunday, Jan. 21, and took a 3-1 win over the Jacksonville Icemen. Greenville is also on an impressive stretch of play, going 8-2 in its last ten games.
Friday’s clash at Hertz Arena will be the debut of the new Everblades captaincy group. Forward Joe Pendenza was named the team’s 20th captain in franchise history on Thursday. Joining him as alternate captains are Oliver Chau and Logan Lambdin for home games, and Bobo Carpenter and Riese Zmolek for away meetings.
