Blades Drop 1-0 Heartbreaker in OT

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – After 60 minutes of scoreless hockey on the road, the Florida Everblades dropped a 1-0 decision to the Adirondack Thunder just 21 seconds into overtime Saturday night at Cool Insuring Arena

After combining for 15 goals in the first two games of the series, neither side was able to solve the opposing goaltender over all 60 minutes of regulation play in Saturday night’s rubber match, including the first three scoreless periods in the three-game set. Both Florida netminder Cam Johnson and his Adirondack counterpart Jeremy Brodeur turned aside 23 and 31 shots, respectively, over the three regulation periods.

The Everblades were successful in staving off nearly five crucial minutes of shorthanded ice time, as Adirondack enjoyed as much as a two-man advantage across the closing moments of the middle frame and the opening minutes of the third period.

Each team registered 20 shots on goal over the first two periods. Florida outshot Adirondack by a commanding 11-3 margin in the final period, but could not seal the victory in regulation.

Adirondack’s Travis Broughman netted the game-winner 21 seconds into the three-on-three overtime session.

Everblades goaltender Johnson (6-4-2-0) made 23 saves in the hard-luck loss, while Brodeur (5-2-0-0) made 31 saves for the victorious Thunder.

With the four-game road trip and a stretch that has seen eight of the last 10 games played away from Hertz Arena, the Everblades are primed to return home for a stretch of five straight home games, the longest homestand of the season. The first of a three-game set against the South Carolina Stingrays is slated for Wednesday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. as will be highlighted by the always popular Hump Day Deal, which offers fans the opportunity to enjoy $3.00 Labatt beers and $3.00 hot dogs all throughout the game. The Blades and Rays will also square off on Friday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m., before the Orlando Solar Bears come to town on December 15 and 16. BLADES BITS

The Everblades were shutout for the first time this season after finding themselves in a 0-0 battle that stretched into the third period for the first time this season,

For the Everblades, 1-0 decisions are few and far between. Florida last dropped a 1-0 decision on February 5, 2020 against Orlando in overtime, while the Blades had not dropped a 1-0 decision in regulation since falling at South Carolina on November 16, 2018. On the happier side of the ledger, the last 1-0 Blades victory came in Game Three of the 2023 Kelly Cup Finals over Idaho on June 7, while the last 1-0 Blades overtime victory was in the 2022 South Division Finals Game Four clincher at Jacksonville on May 11, 2022. In regular-season play, the Everblades were last involved in a 1-0 contest came in the form of a victory at South Carolina back on January 3, 2020.

While a third-period tally evaded the Everblades on Saturday, the third period has been the most productive for the Everblades after the season’s first 17 games. Florida has outscored their opponents 20-7 in the final frame.
