SOLD OUT CROWD SEES EVERBLADES HOIST KELLY CUP BANNER, BUT BLADES NIPPED BY JACKSONVILLE

ESTERO, Fla. – A sellout crowd of 7,326 fans cheered on the raising of the Florida Everblades’ second straight Kelly Cup championship banner, the third in organization history. While the Blades drew first blood and rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to tie the game, a late goal by Jacksonville saw the home team came out on the short end of a 4-3 decision to the Icemen Saturday night at a boisterous Hertz Arena.

Both teams lit the lamp in the first period, starting with Florida’s Patrick Holway. The Blades newcomer brought the energetic sellout crowd to its feet with a successful blast from the right point just 1:45 after the opening draw. Cam Hausinger and Logan Lambdin earned the assists on Holway’s first goal in an Everblades sweater. Unfortunately, Jacksonville would knot the score at 1-1, as Chris Brown converted on the Icemen’s first power-play opportunity at 9:13 of the opening frame.

The second period belonged to Jacksonville as the Icemen struck twice in a 2:22 span, as Anthony Petruzzelli and Matheson Iacopelli scored at 4:53 and 7:15, respectively, to give the Icemen a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.

Florida returned the favor, scoring two goals of their own in the third period to even the score at 3-3 and it appeared as if the game would head to overtime. Bobo Carpenter finished off a wrap-around play at the 6:55 mark for his second tally of the year. Joe Pendenza and Holway picked up the assists and for Holway, the two-point game was his first as an Everblade. Pendenza knotted the game at 3-3, with his first of the year at 18:51 on a feed by David Cotton, but Jacksonville’s Garret Cockerill potted an unassisted goal at 19:23 to seal the 4-3 win for the Icemen.

Cam Johnson (1-2-0-0) made 30 saves in net for the Everblades, while Matt Vernon (2-0-0-0) registered 22 saves and earned the victory for Jacksonville.

The four-game homestand continues with the first of three games in four days against the Orlando Solar Bears on Wednesday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m. Fans can enjoy the first of numerous Hump Days deals and enjoy $3.00 draft beers and $3.00 hot dogs throughout Wednesday’s contest. BLADES BITS

Patrick Holway’s first-period goal was his first in an Everblades sweater and marked the first tally by a Florida defenseman on the young season. Entering the season, Holway had registered five goals across three professional seasons, including four with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda and one with the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays.

Logan Lambdin ran his point streak to four games with his assist on Holway’s first-period tally. In the season’s first four games, Lambdin has a team-best four points on two goals and two helpers.

Bobo Carpenter joined Lambdin as the only Everblades with two goals on the 2023-24 season, while Cam Hausinger has notched two assists in the last three games, matching Lambdin for the team lead with a pair.

The Everblades surrendered a season-high four goals, after allowing three goals in two of the team’s first three games.

Florida has been outshot in each of the team’s first four games as the opposition has held a 164-119 advantage in shots on goal. Opposing teams have also gone 4-for-19 on the power play, compared to 0-for 12 for the Blades.
