ORLANDO, Fla. – Logan Lambdin buried a blast with 6:56 to play in the third period and Evan Cormier made 43 saves in his Florida Everblades debut to lift the Blades to a 2-1 victory over the Orlando Solar Bears Thursday night at Amway Center. The victory closed out the Blades’ three-game season-opening road trip with a 2-1 record, with both wins coming against the host Solar Bears.
The Everblades struck first, as Sean Josling registered the only goal of the opening period, potting his first tally of the season at the 10:27 mark, closing out a nifty two-on-one rush with Mark Senden and Zach Tsekos.
Florida’s lead would hold until the 6:41 mark of the middle frame, but Orlando’s Sean Jandric collected the equalizer, knotting the score as 1-1. Jandric’s goal was his fourth of the season and second against the Everblades, as he factored into the scoring in both matchups between the South Division rivals this season.
The 1-1 deadlock would hold up until 13:04 of the third period, when Lambdin’s blast from the right circle, gave the Everblades a 2-1 advantage. Lambdin’s second goal of the season came off assists by David Cotton and Josling, who logged the first two-point game by an Everblade this season.
Cormier’s 43 saves en route to the victory, giving Florida a strong performance in net on a night when Orlando outshot the Blades 44-29, holding an edge in shots on goal in each of the three periods. Solar Bears netminder Brandon Halverson made 27 saves in a losing effort.
Coming off a 2-1 road trip to open the campaign, the defending back-to-back Kelly Cup champions will make their Hertz Arena season debut on Saturday, October 28 as Jacksonville skates into town for a 7:00 p.m. contest that will get underway after the Everblades hoist the 2022-23 Kelly Cup championship banner in special pregame ceremonies. In addition to the banner raising, Sweets in the Suites will be presented by Waste Pro Tailgate Party with live music and bounce houses. BLADES BITS
Logan Lambdin’s third-period game-winning goal was his second in as many games and gave him a point in each of the Everblades’ first three contests. He potted Florida’s only goal in the Blades’ 3-1 setback in Jacksonville last Saturday.
Evan Cormier’s 43 saves matched the ECHL’s single-game high, equaling the total posted by Allen’s Leevi Merilainen in the Americans’ 5-2 win over Idaho on October 20.
Sean Josling’s opening goal was his first of the young season, while his two-point effort was the first by a Florida skater this year.
Four different skaters registered assists for the Everblades on Thursday, as 10 different players logged exactly one assist on the season-opening three-game road trip for the defending Kelly Cup Champions. Mark Senden, Zach Tsekos, David Cotton and Sean Josling each had helpers for Florida in the 2-1 victory.
