ESTERO, Fla. – After securing a 4-3 shootout win on Thursday, the Florida Everblades shift their focus to game number two: a road clash against the Jacksonville Icemen on Saturday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m.
Florida first entered the W column with a come-from-behind effort against the Orlando Solar Bears in the season opener. Down 3-2 going into the final frame, the Everblades needed a Kamerin Nault goal to equalize and send the game to overtime. The extra period wasn’t enough, and a seven-round shootout was required to decide the winner. In the end, it was Mark Senden – who scored the opening goal of the game in the first period – to lock in the two points for Florida. Bobo Carpenter also netted a goal for the Everblades in the second period.
While this will be the second game for the Everblades, it’s the Icemen’s season opener. Last year, Jacksonville finished in second place in the division with 93 points and beat Greenville in six games in the opening round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Icemen and Everblades then met in round two, where Florida took the series 4-2 on the way to another Kelly Cup title.
Saturday’s contest is the second of three road games to start the 2023-24 campaign for the Blades. After the game in Jacksonville, Florida goes back to Orlando on Thursday for another game against the Solar Bears.
