The 2020-21 season marks the second year of the Florida Everblades’ affiliation with the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League. After the Milwaukee Admirals opted out of the 2020-21 American Hockey League season, Nashville partnered with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves to fill the void left by Milwaukee. So far this season, seven former Everblades have been called up to Nashville and 11 have played AHL games with Chicago or elsewhere.
Nashville Update: The Predators have clawed their way into playoff positioning in the Discover Central Division and currently occupy the fourth and final playoff spot in the division standings with 52 points. The Preds have been on a tear since early March winning 14 of their last 20 games. Ahead of Nashville in the division are the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning. The teams trailing Nashville in the division include the Dallas Stars (50pts), Chicago Blackhawks (49pts), Detroit Red Wings (39pts) and Columbus Blue Jackets (39pts).
NHL Appearance for Smith: The first former Everblade to crack an NHL lineup this season was Cole Smith. The Predators recalled Smith on Dec. 28, and the forward made his NHL debut on Jan. 14 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Brainerd, Minnesota native has since been reassigned to the Chicago Wolves in the AHL and has notched eight points (4g-4a) in 18 games. Smith played in five contests (1g-2a) for the Everblades at the start of the 2020-21 season.
Jeannot in the Show: Forward Tanner Jeannot started the season appearing in five games (3g-3a) with the Everblades and was recalled to Nashville on Dec. 28. From the Nashville taxi squad, he was reassigned to the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League. Jeannot racked up 21 points (10g-11a) in 13 AHL games with the Wolves, and he earned himself a ticket up to the big club in Nashville. The Oxbow, Saskatchewan native made his NHL debut on Mar. 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes, and he scored his first NHL goal on Apr. 13 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Novak Thriving with Wolves: Forward Tommy Novak is finding success at the AHL level with the Chicago Wolves. Novak has already accumulated 16 points (3g-13a) in 15 AHL games with the Wolves. The 23-year-old appeared in three Everblades games (1g-2a) this season and has seen time with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL each of the last two seasons.
