Cam Johnson Signs with Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League announced the signing of goaltender Cam Johnson of the Florida Everblades of the ECHL to a one-year, two-way National Hockey League/American Hockey League contract for the 2020-21 season.

With Florida this season, Johnson has earned a 6-1-0 record, to go with a 1.77 goals-against average and .941 save percentage. The 26-year-old also leads all ECHL goaltenders with two shutouts – the only two in the league this season. 

Through 38 career ECHL games, Johnson has posted a 23-11-2 record with a 2.32 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. In 2018 and 2019 with the AHL’s Binghamton Devils, Johnson accumulated an 11-19-0 record, while posting a 3.80 goals-against average and an .873 save percentage. 

A native of Troy, Michigan, Johnson played four seasons at the University of North Dakota from 2014 to 2018, compiling a 56-26-12 record, 2.10 goals-against average, .914 save percentage to go along with 12 shutouts in 102 career outings. In 2015-16, he went 24-4-2 with a 1.66 goals-against average, .935 save percentage and collected five shutouts in 34 games to lead the Fighting Hawks to the NCAA championship.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are affiliated with the Cleveland Monsters in the AHL. Cleveland begins AHL play on Feb. 5 along with 27 other teams. --
