Last Time Out

The Everblades dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Orlando Solar Bears this past Saturday night at Hertz Arena. Zach Nastasiuk, Justin Auger, and Tommy Thompson all scored their first goals with the 'Blades, and John McCarron started the scoring with his second goal of the year to help Florida salvage a point. Hunter Fejes tabbed the last two goals of the game, including the overtime winner, to push Orlando to the win.

Jacksonville topped the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, 5-1, on Sunday in Greenville, South Carolina, to remain undefeated. Alexis D'Aoust tabbed his fifth and sixth goals of the season for the Icemen to propel the offensive effort, while Tanner Jaillet stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced to earn the victory.

Players to Watch

John McCarron (FLA) – McCarron found the back of the net for the second straight Saturday, opening the scoring this past Saturday night in the 5-4 overtime loss to Orlando. The Macomb, Michigan, native led the Everblades in goals last season with 29 and had the first goal of the game four times. He has potted the first goal twice already this season.

Tanner Jaillet (JAX) - Goaltending has been a key factor in Jacksonville's undefeated start to the season, and Jaillet has played well in both of his two starts this year. An NCAA Champion with the University of Denver in 2016-17, Jaillet sits tied for fourth in the ECHL in goals-against-average with a 1.50 mark.

Key notes

  • Auger posted his first goal and multi-point game of the season in the setback against the Solar Bears, the fourth multi-point game of the year for a Florida player. Nastasiuk, Steven Lorentz and Joe Cox have registered the other multi-point performances.
  • Thompson and Nastasiuk had their first goals with the Everblades on Saturday night. Thompson's goal was his 21st career tally in the ECHL, while Nastasiuk's score was his 32nd in the league.
  • The Everblades have surrendered just one power-play goal through six games and have the third-highest penalty kill rate in the ECHL at 94.7 percent. Florida killed off all eight Orlando power plays last weekend and has killed off 11 straight opposing power plays over its last three games.
  • Florida’s road penalty kill is one of just five perfect road penalty kills in the league. Through three road games, the Everblades have been shorthanded an average of 1.67 times per game, the fewest shorthanded situations per road game in the ECHL.
  • Florida goaltenders have combined to allow the second-fewest goals per game this season in the ECHL, yielding an average of 2.50 goals per tilt.
  • Jamie Phillips yielded two goals or fewer for his third straight start last Friday night against Orlando and ranks seventh among ECHL goaltenders with a 1.67 goals-against average.
  • Florida has limited opponents to the third-fewest shots per game in the league, surrendering just 27.3 shots against per contest.
  • Steven Lorentz's five-point game on Oct. 20 against the Norfolk Admirals is still an ECHL individual game-high for this season. His plus-five rating in that contest is an ECHL individual game-high, while his four assists are tied for an ECHL individual game-high.
  • Including Friday and Saturday night in Jacksonville, the Everblades will play nine of their next 11 contests on the road. The only two home games in that stretch are on Nov. 9-10 against Jacksonville.

Next Up

After finishing the weekend against Jacksonville on Saturday night, the ‘Blades return home to host the Icemen the weekend of Nov. 9-10 for Swampee’s Birthday and Military Night. Friday’s game will include a Swampee growth chart giveaway presented by Arthrex, and the Everblades will wear specialty camouflage jerseys on Saturday night of that weekend for Military Night.
