ESTERO, Fla. — The Florida Everblades have acquired forward Shane Walsh in exchange for future considerations in a trade with the Reading Royals, Florida head coach Brad Ralph announced.
A University of Massachusetts Amherst product, Walsh, 26, will help bolster the Everblades offensive depth and brings 123 games of ECHL experience to the team.
The native of Boston, Massachusetts, is in his third season in the ECHL and split time last season between the Cincinnati Cyclones and Greenville Swamp Rabbits prior to being acquired by Reading in August of this year. Walsh has posted 70 career ECHL points on 29 goals and 41 assists, including a career-best 45-point season in 2016-17 when he shared 71 total games between the Utah Grizzlies and Cincinnati.
Before turning pro, Walsh suited up in 133 games over four seasons with the Minutemen. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound winger registered 36 career goals with UMass and compiled 67 points.
Walsh played three seasons of junior hockey, which included two seasons in the USHL with the Tri-City Storm and Dubuque Fighting Saints. He was part of Dubuque’s Clark Cup Championship in 2010-11, his first season in the USHL.
The Everblades continue their season-long 13-day, seven-game road trip with three games this week against the Norfolk Admirals. That series starts with a Wednesday night matchup at the Norfolk Scope at 7 p.m.
