About Tonight’s Game: The two in-state rivals will meet for the first time since their heated first-round playoff match-up last spring. The Everblades rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the series to defeat the Solar Bears in seven games. However, Florida's run in the Kelly Cup Playoffs ended in the second round to the South Carolina Stingrays who wrapped up the series 4-1. The series included a pair of double-overtime wins by the Rays.
The Everblades open the preseason with a full complement of players, which has made the early part of training camp very competitive. Goaltender Martin Ouellette will get the start tonight. Ouellette enters the season on an AHL contract with the Charlotte Checkers, and has played the past three seasons with the Reading Royals (ECHL) and the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
During the summer, the Solar Bears added former NHL goaltender Matt Hackett to their roster for the 2017-18 season. Hackett has made 26 career NHL appearances split between the Minnesota Wild and Buffalo Sabres. Other notable returnees include forwards Chris Crane and Joe Perry.
