'Blades Season Comes to an End With 2-1 Loss in Game 5

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Parker Milner tuned aside 28 of 28 shots to guide the South Carolina Stingrays to a 2-1 victory over the Florida Everblades in Game 5 of the South Division Finals on Thursday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Stingrays win the best-of-seven series 4-1.

Both teams held each other in check for the first 15 minutes of the game, but the Stingrays struck first on a goal by Andrew Cherniwchan at 13:56.  Following a Dominic Monardo shot that was stopped by Alex Nedeljkovic, the rebound bounced to the shortside of the net and Cherniwchan flipped the loose puck into the net for the tally.

Less than a minute later, Olivier Archambault gave the rays a 2-0 advantage heading into the first break.

The second period didn’t feature any scoring, but the physical nature of the rivalry was renewed with a series of hits and activity after the whistle.   However, both goaltenders remained poised to keep the game at 2-0 heading into the second intermission.

Florida registered its first goal of the game at 4:33 of the third, when Matt Berry directed a puck to John McCarron at the top of the crease.  McCarron angled the puck high into the net past Stingrays goaltender Parker Milner to put the score at 2-1.

The ‘Blades continued to press for the remainder of the period in search of the tying goal, but it would never come, as Milner shut the door on Florida the rest of the way out to seal the 2-1 victory to capture the series.

Milner earns the win making 28 saves while Nedeljkovic takes the loss despite a solid effort allowing two goals on 29 shots faced,
